週末、ぼくの ともだちと アジアン アルールを しました。 ぼくたち たくさん まいを しました。 でも、ぼくのともだちは ノートルダムの 学生 じゃありません。 ヒュストン (Houston)から ぼくたちに あいに きました。 でも さくねん (last year) ともだちは ここに 学生でした。この しゃしんに ぼくと ぼくのともだちが います。ぼくたちは bboy です。ともだちは いい bboyです。

So this is definitely one of my favorite Miyazaki films. Watching Ponyo and then this film? As I mentioned before, it's not that I thought Ponyo wasn't good, it just lacks the greatness that movies like Nausicaa and Mononoke Hime have in abundance.
Maybe it's just because Miyazaki's older movies seem to have some deeper social comment they're trying to push, but I felt that compared to them, Ponyo lacks the same kind of depth. I'd go into more detail but I'd hate to spoil these amazing movies for you if you haven't seen them! I don't want to discourage anybody from watching Ponyo. Please though, just don't pay 10 dollars to watch it at a movie theater.

ぼくのんあまえは フォルテス（ふぉるてす）です。オレゴンに から きました。のとるだむだいがくの にねんせい です。せんこわ えいが と にほんご。アメリカ人（あめりかじん）です。
I could also tell you what time it is, but you'll be able to tell not only by the time stamp but also by what will probably be some delirious writing. The other day I attempted to watch the みやざきのえいが、spirited away in いほんご without any subtitles. Because I know the story well it was easy to follow, but I think my vocabulary is still much too limited to really understand anything but the very simple expressions. I watched Ponyo in にほんご recently as well, but with subtitles. That's the movie that I'd really like to talk briefly about.
Except for one, most of the characters were very static and lacked any real development. I read an interview that みやざき did in which he said that he didn't like drawing evil characters, so in Ponyo, there were none. The movie's most dynamic character was the one most likely to be interpreted as the villain, Ponyo's sorcerer father. I found the movie very cute, but ultimately lacking anything substantial to hold on to.
This is only my opinion, and I'm definitely not even close to being an expert, so there you go.

The extent of my Japanese is what I've learned from watching Japanese animation, including movies by Miyazaki Hayao and the series by Watanabe Shinichiro. I'm majoring in Film as well as Japanese, so a lot of my motivation to learn the language comes from a desire to watch Japanese media in Japanese and understand what I'm listening. Something is always lost in subtitles and especially dubbing, so I hope to learn Japanese for that reason. Other than that, I have a related interest in Japanese culture, probably due to all the anime.
I've actually been meaning to start a blog for myself, unrelated to Japanese but very connected to my passion for film. I'm not satisfied with my writing skills, and because I watch a lot of movies, I thought I could pretty easily write reviews or analysis online of films that I like or dislike. So pending the approval of はなぶさ せんせい, I hope to include my thoughts about Japanese films that I watch within the next semester.
Anyway, one of my hopes for next year is to study abroad in Japan in order to a. improve my language skills enough to major in Japanese (because I'm already a sophomore and I'm only in Japanese 1) and b. experience a new culture. I've done that somewhat already, moving from Portland, OR, one of the most liberal places I can think of, and coming to ND. Freshman year was such an eye opening experience for me that I can't wait to put myself in a situation where I'll be forced to grow not only intellectually but also as a person.
Anyway this is a very rambling and disorganized post. すみません
